Our Swinpup has three outfits, which have been made with dead stock, donated fabrics and recycled waste fabric.
The three outfits designed and made were inspired by using textile waste. It’s estimated that 92 million tonnes of textile waste is created annually by the fashion industry.
We explored techniques to recreate new textile surfaces through weaving, re purposing off-cuts, layering and cut & slash. The shapes of these pieces were challenging due to the shape of the sculpture and we were mindful of not creating further waste. We worked directly on the sculpture to help form the shape and form of the garments.
